Latest LJ censorship

Okay, so I don't check on my friends' LJs for 2 days and then when I do I discover yet another LJ censorship uproar. If you've been under a rock (like me) here's erestor  's post regarding same:  here

Now, I don't have an account at Greatest Journal or any of the others.  I find it time-consuming enough to keep up with this one.   I am completely intimidated by several of my buddies' long list of other journals they keep.  Where do you guys find the time to do this?

I would appreciate knowing how to back up my LJ  but I am unsure what I would do with said backed-up LJ should I be reported to the Thought Police and my LJ unaccountably disappear.    Is it possible to import it to another site like GJ?

I don't know anything about GJ and Insane Journal and the others.  What's to keep them from censoring journals?

I don't like the feeling of insecurity engendered by this kind of harassment by LJ Admin. I especially don't like the idea of a report abuse button that anyone who dislikes anything for any reason or even just to cause trouble could hit.   All this causes me to wonder about leaving LJ.  But really,  I don't want to do that because I'm comfortable here and I like my LJ buddies. I also don't feel like trying to scramble around and find y'all again in other places.  So, I guess until they start really going after us, I'll stick around.  It is making me reconsider renewing my paid account, that's for sure.

Addendum:  Okay, I caved to the peer pressure [hey, leggo of my arm] and set up a journal at Greatest Journal.  Simply enough, I'm on it as elfscribe5.   I'd really appreciate it if those of you on GJ who would like to friend me and have a different username over there would let me know what it is here in a post so I don't have to search all over to find you.  Thanks!   I've already found a number of you by raiding friends' lists.
And there's not an iota of originality in the new one as I don't have time.  I've found it VERY slow to respond to changes and updates.
[grumbles even more]

*nods* It's such a pain! The only way I'm leaving is if they make me or all my friends leave. And keeping 2 journals makes no sense at all to me. I have them set up on GJ and IJ, mainly to make sure I got my name, but I'm not posting over there.

Seconding Agie here... I opened a GJ and IJ but I'm basically going to post here for the most part. I do plan to back up my fics there.

*grumbles along with you*

I don't have the links exact to hand, but you can post identical posts using Semagic at any of the lj clone sites, so you'd have a back up of your posts...

You can back up to your own hard drive using LJArchive. You can transfer your posts from LJ to another LJ clone site using LJSec.

Hit my memories, under 07Exodus. Liz Marc's entry. Scroll down almost to the comments. All the links you need are there.

And btw...it wasn't censorship. The artwork decidedly violated LJ's TOS. They didn't just go willy-nilly deleting.

Thanks Larian. Btw, I set up a Greatest Journal site. It's elfscribe5.
What's your name over there so I can friend you?

Oh, addendum....there's NOTHING to keep the other journal sites from doing the same. Thing is...the sites have to police themselves or the government will do it for them eventually.

I'm always under a rock, so thanks for the recap.

I don't want to leave, I like it here. As long as my friends are here, I'm sticking around.

Hey,
will be friending you as soon as I have the energy to tackle my GJ account. I don't. I've had the account for a while, but never really used it.

Take care,

Hi Cath! Is your name the same as here? I'll friend you. How are you doing btw? I haven't had a chance to read the last 10 (yikes!) chapters or so of Sonny on your website. Will email you when I do. (I'm trying to carve out time to write my own stuff - not so successfully so far.)
Hugs

**waves** I friended you at GJ.

My own two cents: I actually prefer IJ to GJ, but I'm a lemming, so I will back up wherever the mass of fandom chooses to dig the storage caves. **grin**

Hi Min,
Re: prefer IJ to GJ. LOL! I'm afraid one other journal is all I can deal with right now. Storage caves, that's so right.
Hugs back

Using 'artistc merit' as one of the criteria for banning something is very edgy stuff... artistic tastes are subjective and a crit would requre an art background and qualifications. I saw the pic and I think I'd peg Harry at around 16 or 17. On those grounds I thought it warranted a warning maybe, but not outright banning.

I have a huge problem with the principle of a 'report abuse' button. When that gets implimented, I'll have to think things through. Currently I'm on IJ and have been on GJ for ages... GJ was my 'other' journal, IJ was me being a lemming - and loving the name. I'll go find you on both.

*hugs you*

Hello dear Kei,
Yeah, the artistic merit stuff is cause for concern. I don't want to get all panicky like some, but this certainly is a slippery slope that could end up in more witch hunts. I know too much about history. It starts with what everyone agrees is a good thing - we're going after people who "promote" underage sex. But it may not stop there. Even though neither I nor any of my friend write, draw, or promote underage sex, there are grey areas, and there are many folks out there who would be offended by what we do write and would want to ban it if they could.
Heh, highway to hell, indeed.

I set up a GJ during the first big witch hunt but have yet to do anything with it. I'm capella_fic over there, too. The way I'm living at the moment - internet access here and there when I can manage it - there's no chance of me posting to more than one journal. One is difficult enough, in fact.

On the other hand, I recommend backing up your journal with LJArchive, I think it is, a free download. It's not about the fic, but about the conversations that go on in the comments. I was particularly keen not to lose Andy's comments on past posts, as you can imagine.

Hi sweetie,
Have friended you. Re: multiple posting. Larian says if you use a program called LJsec (?) you can post to multiple journals at once. Erg. I'll get to get up the nerve, first to find it and then to figure out how it works. I have no doubt you'd figure it out in a flash.
And right, I wouldn't want to lose comments either, but especially I understand in your case.

Btw. [squeals] I truly think I'll have that chapter to you to beta tomorrow. [crosses fingers]

Hi hon. I caved to the madness as well. Couldn't stand the thought of losing track of my favorite authors, so I'm at BOTH IJ and GJ, with the same username.

Hi Zoe,
Friended you back. How was the trip to England? How was Orli?
