To all you lovely people who wrote me birthday well wishies!
I am sending you kisses and whatever elves you desire.
Capella, dearheart, called me today and sent me a lovely present.
And Seekie wrote me a fic!  which is here: http://seekie.livejournal.com/131790.html#cutid1   I'm so touched.  No one has ever written a story for me before.
It really helps because I've been very down lately and birthdays tend to be a sore point.  Thanks for making my day bright.
I totally love all of you.

Hiya Fim - thanks. Always good to string a birthday celebration out over a couple of days.

Ohhhh, happy birthday!

I'm so sorry to hear that you've been down, lately. Birthdays become a sore point for most of us eventually, I guess. (Me, too!) I send a big hug your way in hopes that it cheers you, at least a little!

Mmmm, I finished it in the early hours of this morning LOL And I've posted a little review and caps over at my place... Very good, very interesting; and I'm absolutely stunned by Jon's performance... He's a natural, that guy :) Somehow I think his earlier films are even better that his recent ones. The almost "stage-like" settings in parts really suits him. Maybe he should try a Shakespeare play next? LOL! Thanks for the rec you and Capella made a long time back. I'm very happy with this series :) Would love to hear your thoughts on it!!! Btw, have you watched the "making of" as well? With interviews and such?
elfscribe5 at 2006-02-20 07:00 (UTC) (Link)
I read Gormenghast as a teenager not too long after I first discovered Tolkien. I remember thinking it very strange and disturbing, not exactly a fun read, but filled with characters and scenes so powerful that I remember them to this day - such as the battle between the cook and Flay (wasn't Christopher Lee great?) And yes JRM was perfect as Steerpike, who is my favorite character. Even though he is conniving, I did find him sympathetic. He is the only one in that whole bunch of people stultified by tradition and adherence to rank who is able to act outside of his birthright or really to DO anything at all. And one has to admire how clever he is. Interesting that no one noticed him or could remember his name, and so he was able to work his machinations virtually invisible. I did watch the making of - and found it very interesting. I loved the bit about the white crow.
Yes, JRM'd be perfect in Shakespeare. If you haven't seen it already, rent The Lion in Winter with Patrick Stewart and Glenn Close. JRM was so good as King Philip.

Btw, have you ever watched a movie called "Titus", from 1999? With, among others; A. Hopkins & Jessica Lange? Weird, weird, weird... And again a disturbingly mad and very good Jon ;) (I have only seen it on telly, but I did spot some brotherly slashyness there LOL)
elfscribe5 at 2006-02-20 06:30 (UTC) (Link)
No, haven't seen Titus, except for the weird image on the cover of Anthony with a blue face. Will have to rent it sometime. Slashiness, eh?

Because "Happy Birthday to You" is soooo overdone!

It was your birthday? I'm so sorry, I didn't know!

(Starts singing, in basso profundo:)

May the candles on your cake
burn like cities in your wake!
Happy Birthday! (Boom!)
Happy Birthday! (Boom!)

Hear the women wail and weep!
Kill 'em all, but save the sheep!
Happy Birthday! (Boom!)
Happy Birthday! (Boom!)

Indigestion's what you get
from the enemies you 'et!
Happy Birthday! (Boom!)
Happy Birthday! (Boom!)

Here's a lesson you must learn:
First you pillage, then you burn!
Happy Birthday! (Boom!)
Happy Birthday! (Boom!)

Many battles you have led --
have some fun before you're dead!
Happy Birthday! (Boom!)
Happy Birthday! (Boom!)

Now your jail-bait days are done.
Let's go out and have some fun!
Happy Birthday! (Boom!)
Happy Birthday! (Boom!)

Thank you, I'll be here all week. Do try the veal.
