At first, I thought My Guests might be something like a crude version of Site Meter, which (IIRC) is not supported by the LJ platform. However, Site Meter does not track and display the blog owner's meanderings. Mine's off less for reasons of privacy than for the fact that My Guests is clunky compared to Site Meter.

In terms of privacy, I assume that you're aware many blogs outside of LJ have Site Meter (or a similar feature) installed on them that tracks visitors. The meter often provides a fair amount of detail, too, including the site which has referred the visitor to the page and then the exit page. However, once the visitor leaves, the blog owner has no idea of the former's past or future surfing history.

I expect many of us have our Internet activities monitored quietly at our places of employment (if these are outside the home). So, whereas I understand the sentiment concerning My Guests, privacy on the Internet is an elusive creature.

Thanks for the input, Pande. It seems everyone has decided against this darling little snoopy feature. I disabled mine too.
