My Guests feature

I'm fairly certain LJ could already track your movements, should it want to do so; it wouldn't seem to be difficult for it to compile a list of the places you visit when you are logged in. It would seem to be time-consuming, however. I think that the features is intended for you to be able to see who visits your journal, but to make it more evenhanded (I suppose?), it requires that you allow yourself to be seen when you visit other persons' journals.

I suppose it wouldn't prevent you from visiting anonymously should you not login, but I'm not a fan of the feature. It's a little Big Brother for me.

That's probably nothing that you didn't already know.

So, how does it work? I mean where do you access this list of who visits the LJ and can other people, not the LJ owner, see this list?

I suppose I could find a FAQ and read up on it. *grumbles*

No idea. I think I'd assumed it would be on your homepage, but I realized that I've no basis for that assumption. Let me check and see if there is a FAQ about it and I'll get back to you. I know I won't use it, but it's worth knowing how it works.

Found the FAQ here. Not sure how helpful it is.

I think chaoticbinky's right in that it is intrusive and still not a good measure of who's visited your journal.

Thanks Lilith. Apparently it doesn't count friends who read your LJ from their friends' page. Since most of my content is f-locked, it seems silly to bother with this. And yes I agree with others that it seems Big Brotherish.
The good news is that if one were to try it out, it's reversible.

I'd agree; I don't really feel the need to know who visits my journal. My personal entries are f-locked and I think, if I were to know who'd visited and read my fic but didn't comment, I'd begin to become very nervous.

I need to review your last chapter of Elegy. I loved it; Sauron's a fascinating and cunning creature, and Sula continues to amaze me.
