I agree with Erfan, you have to read all of the Adrien English books. The best one, IMHO, is the latest one, but it follows on the others. His writing just kills me. It has everything: humor, drama, suspense, romance and mystery and the language use is enviable. I cannot say enough good things about it. It just has so much heart and warmth, with nice healthy dose of cynicism. (I swear, my attitude has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that Josh is such a nice guy!)

You're both on Kenaz' fic rec list :D

Wow! I must go look! I'm going to do that 100-fic recs also.

I've read four including some exquisite stories. Apparently Talullah Red has a fic rec list somewhere, too. Be worth finding.

*creeps away*

What fic rec list?

There's a 100 fic rec list challenge that some people are doing, like recommending instead of writing, to fit the criteria of the prompts. It's a recent post on her lj and I've read four of them before. She's filled in some recommendations and posted the prompts table.

What fic rec list?

That's what you get for not reading my journal. :p

LOL. I guess so, have to check it out. You're reccing 100 fics from a set of prompts? It would take me forever to look things up to do that. Thanks for reccing something of mine. Hugs!!

Maybe not, but it is lovely that he comes over like that; such a shock when you love a book and its characters and the writer is an absolute gorgon. I won't mention Janny Wurts here. You guys might have met me years earlier but I got my nose bitten off for being a lazy reader - I read thousands of pages, multiple times, back to back, and it was the first question I had ever asked on-line :| 'not going to explain to someone who can't be bothered to read for themselves' was her comment.

I decided she was covering for a plothole :| She's impressive though, in many ways, and corresponds incredibly promptly to her bloggers. Really keeps up. Great settings and tremendous romance. But oh, what dreadfully opaque grammar - you fight your way through a sentence as you would a jungle. Reminds me of my emails or lj comments :| I'm talking about Arithon, and her series of which 'Ships of Merior' is the second. Amazing ideas, gorgeous settings, but I don't think the story is ever going to end... Absolutely cannot recommend her writing style, though content is fascinating. I think it was one to three I liked. Too rambly later. High drama and dark.

I loved the characters/characterization in Robin Hobb and the animal persona stuff! Wow!

I often think that writers can be a bit too full of themselves, and/or take their lawyers/publishers' advice as though it issued from god. (Easy for me to say, since I am not publishing anything I would want anyone to read.)

Sounds like I'll have to buy them. I may end up exceeding my gift allowance. Heh.

Ditto! On everything you've said. I'm slowing working my way through everything of JL's, but his Adrien's I'm only taking at about one every week or so - there are only four! I've read the first two and next week is the third. God, I just love his spare prose. And you're so right - the humor, and the suspense and the romance - I just love the drollness of it all.

Well, I've ordered the first one in the series, so you guys convinced me. *g*
