Ana Library Elf and I were discussing the possibility of casting Luke Goss as Thranduil.  He caught our attention playing the lovely but psychotic Prince Nuada on Hellboy II - which was directed by Guillermo del Toro who is also directing the Hobbit.  So this isn't a totally hairbrained idea.  Anyway, check out these INCREDIBLE fight scenes, take off all the white make-up and whadaya think?

Luke Goss

So, give him a shave and a long, blond wig . . .

He looks good with the long hair.:)

I think so too.
Laurelin (who wants to be a spatula)

Looks like someone had the same idea:

He certainly has the cheekbones to pull it off. *g*

Hey Laurelin - I guess great minds think alike. LOL! Ana sent me those too.

*whistles in appreciation* Yup. Lose the whiteface and I think we got us an elf king. Very nice physique there too.

Perhaps a letter writing campaign to del Toro?

He's poetry in motion, as they say. Not too bad looking without all the psychotic elf prince makeup too. I think it could work.
Fiery Notes

Ah, Blind Guardian. I'd recognize that guitar tone anywhere.

Oh, wait, you were talking about Luke Goss? Sorry. I suppose he could pull it off.

Yeah, as usual you were listening to the music while I was perving on the hot guy. LOL! Actually, I did like the music on this one, which is why I picked it among a bunch of others. Anything more you can tell me about it - the music I mean?

Could be worse.
he has lovely eyes actually. Give him a decent ( really decent golden wig...and get rid of the stubble d;-) )

I realize I remember him when he was in Bros, one of the first boy bands, LOL!! :DDD From Bros to Thranduil - not bad!!
I only ever saw him in Blade II, but apparently he is a much better actor than he was a singer.

When doing a search for pics, I discovered that bit about the boy band. Funny. I didn't know. And never saw Blade II. I thought he did a fantastic job acting in Hellboy II - best part of the movie, imho.

Oh yeah.

Did you ever see the birthday pic ani_mama drew for me?

Um, I don't think so. Gotta link?

Oh yeah, the white makeup worked for his Prince Nuada part. For Thranduil, not so much. I agree that he was the best part of the film and yes very elven in the kickass warrior way. Interesting when you create a villain with so much personality that he kinda takes over. He had just that much pathos too, that as crazybad as he was, he was just a soupcon sympathetic. Good villain.
ennorwen at 2009-02-20 10:09 (UTC) (Link)
Hmmm. Ya know, I could see it. Especially the B&W pic that you posted. He has the fiery, feral look that I'd like to see Thranduil have and the latent power. The fight scene was well...yeah. I deem him acceptable. Maybe even more than. (I really haven't been able to come up with much of alternative myself -)
elfscribe5 at 2009-02-20 17:07 (UTC) (Link)
Heh, I can see you hesitating here. (think about it, give it a chance. lol) Well of course nothing they come up with will match our mental image of Thranduil. But I at least hope and pray that they don't make him all weird and ugly, you know like some of del Toro's critters with really, really long fingers and such. He needs to be beautiful and noble and yes fiery, feral. He needs to make all the fangirls squeal.

He has stunning bone structure and he's definitely pretty enough, it could work. He makes me feel old, though, somehow, with the Bros thing. I was 14 or so when they were at their height.
elfscribe5 at 2009-02-20 17:08 (UTC) (Link)
I didn't know he was in a boy band before. Funny. Yes, good bone structure. I think he'd make a good elf king, especially if they give him a gorgeous fight scene.

He's good and I wouldn't object to him at all. I loved him in Hellboy 2, but I still think my favorite is James Marsters. I think either could pull it off and quite well. Shouldn't they be casting soon?

elfscribe5 at 2009-02-20 17:10 (UTC) (Link)
James Marsters might be good too. I've only seen a couple of Buffy episodes and don't remember him all that well. I don't know quite where they are in the process, but I would think they'd be casting about now.

Yes, I know. I'm watching Hellboy and perving on the crazy villain. But you know there is something to be said for the gorgeous crazy badboy that you KNOW is big trouble but well, he's just so hot. That's a gorgeous pic you found. A younger version of Luke. Will he be too old now?

I don't know all that much about kung fu and so forth, but I enjoyed watching all the dancey-fancy stuff. Such passion! And anger! I totally bought him as a very challenging opponent for Hellboy (who solves everything with a quip and a punch - I actually like his character too and Abraham, in fact the characters in this are all fun, just wish they had more to do in the story.) I thought Luke's acting was quite good in this. I believed he was nuts.

And the musculature - yeah, mmm, *flails with you*

He is probably the type of guy they will cast. I think I have a dissenting opinion here. 1) (ever the canatic) Tolkien said that elves appeared to be about 25-years-old; so for me he looks too old. 2) I don't think his mouth is sexy--he looks too hard around the mouth.

Shoot me! (I haven't seen Hellboy, so maybe that would push me more in his favor.)
elfscribe5 at 2009-02-23 03:02 (UTC) (Link)
Ah well, everyone has a different opinion. I just fell in love with Mr. Goss as Nuada, mostly because of how he moves, but who knows how he'd look as Thranduil. It's true he might be a little too old at this point. They might go for a relative unknown like they did in LOTR. I hope they cast someone totally beautiful. Not someone like the baby Glorfindel they had in LOTR. What do you think of using Orli? He might be a little too old looking at this point too. (Gack, what a thought.)

I wonder if Hugo Weaving will reprise Elrond? (He'll be looking older too and I'm not sure makeup can fix - ah yes, aging, hard to pull off if one is playing an immortal.)

help? *.*

oh he was prettier as an elf LOL^^; I liked Hellboy 2, it was what a comic movie should be - cute, funny, shiny and clever! and it had an elf LOL^^;

Listen, I have a favor to ask... please lead me to the correct path for.. I have been watching LOTR lately.. OK OK I said it, i submitted to boredom mostly and .. I kinda like ti - it's shiny! And Frodo's blue eyes are exceptional... so i had been thinking ^^; i cannot find any Legolas x Frodo fanfiction worth reading... Since i have a rather morbid sense of humor even in my most inspired state... I do wanna know how they figure out the problem of ...size *snicker*

No really, a nice clever long story would be so welcome, but I have no idea about the communities, or good authors... >.> and FF had only one or two stories featuring them and.. they kinda sucked >.>

Re: help? *.*

Hiya Shu. Yeah I watched Hellboy a couple times on a DVD this summer and enjoyed it a lot, but especially Prince Nuada, even though he's the bad guy.

As far as Legolas/Frodo -- well, that's an unusual pairing and I don't usually read hobbit slash, however, I do know of a couple. The absolute best was a series called "Linnod" by my friend Esmeralda who could write any pairing convincingly. It is nice and long, so you can dive right in. I went on a net search for her stuff and it seems to have disappeared from everywhere except her LJ. So here's the link:
Click on her tag "Linnod" and you'll get all in the series.
Btw, if you read her fic and like them, I'm sure she'd love some fb.
Oh gack, just realized her fics are f-locked. I'm not sure if they are anywhere else on the web. I'll check for you.

Another good writer is Belinda, aka Doom's Eyebrow and she wrote a story called The Mill in the Mirror:

And then there's some on Library of Moria. I haven't read any of these so can't tell you about quality. But here they are anyhow: http://www.libraryofmoria.com/a/browse.php?type=categories&catid=449

Happy reading.
