For Wind and Fire

Thanks muchly to all those folks who reviewed it.     And heartfelt congrats to all the winners and nominees as well.

*still amazed*

Several folks asked for a link to this so here it is:

Wheeee! You shouldn't be shocked. Mildly surprised only, as a good show of modesty. ;) I must go read, forthwith, as I am sadly behind your times. Hugs and congratulations!

Thanks hon. I put a link to the story up with this post and then spent time decorating the fic on the SWG site with a cool pic of JRM as Feanor. LOL. Like I don't have better stuff to do today. At least now you have a yummy visual to go with the sort of stiff archaic language in the story.
Hugs back.

You shouldn't be. You're an awesome writer, my friend. Congratulations!

Thanks Larien. I appreciate the "awesome" even though I don't feel it as I struggle with a spaghetti of words.

Hey! Well done indeed.

And what a lovely banner they've given you.

Hey Grond thanks for the well-wishes. I chose that from a bewildering menu of gorgeous pics that they offered. The MEFAs are aggressively well-run.

Congratulations! I'm fairly sure I haven't read this fic, so now I have something to look forward to :-) Beautyful banner, too!

Thanks Mal! As I said above, I put a link to the SWG site on this post and added a nice visual of Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Feanor. What, am I procrastinating again? Yeah.
malinorne2003 at 2008-12-03 18:20 (UTC) (Link)
Thanks for the link! I'd be lying if I said the archaic language was never a hindrance, but nevertheless, I enjoyed reading very much, and of course particularly the part 'in the past', which was also easier to read :-)
I found this to be a very creative fic, and considering the similarities between Greek mythology and the Silmarillion, it makes perfect sense to let a 'god' interact in this way. And, Fëanor would be the only elf who could appear in the role of the seducer... so perfect :-)
elfscribe5 at 2008-12-03 21:11 (UTC) (Link)
As (I think) Pandemonium said Manwe in this is very like Zeus and Varda like Hera. Makes sense to me anyway.
The archaic language wasn't easy for me and I agree that it sometimes overly calls attention to itself. I probably won't do it again (aside from my Ring characterization - lol). Glad you enjoyed it.
malinorne2003 at 2008-12-03 21:25 (UTC) (Link)
The Zeus/Hera comment makes a lot of sense, only it seems Zeus initiated his affairs with mortals, while you had Fëanor take the initiative. I liked that!
As for archaic language, I wouldn't have minded if it had been only Manwe using it. The Ring characterization is brilliant!
kenazfiction at 2008-12-03 15:52 (UTC) (Link)
Without question a well deserved victory!

Thanks Kenaz. I am humbled to be in such amazing company. Your stories are awesome.
menel at 2008-12-03 17:29 (UTC) (Link)

I've bookmarked the story for holiday reading. I was excited to see that it features Feanor. He's my favorite character from the Sil. *hugs*

Hi menel! Thanks. I hope you enjoy. I found the archaic language a daunting task which I know I didn't nail. It's not exactly light reading either. If you're interested in a lighter holiday themed fic, check out "To Light the Solstice Fire"

I'm so impressed with MEFA - what a great banner/pic. Congratulations, it's heart-warming to see you get this. Thanks for linking to the fic, too. I have not read it and will look forward to it. MEFA is providing a good focus for a reason to read particular fics and I have needed that lately.

Once again, congratulations! (I'll read the fic and then enthuse about why I think you earned it!! :D)

elfscribe5 at 2008-12-03 21:23 (UTC) (Link)
I found the MEFAs totally intimidating in the sheer number of excellent authors and fics. And based on reading reviews, there were so many good ones. I was only able to sample a fraction of the stories, but the ones I did were of high quality.

You may not like Wind and Fire. It's not an easy read, I don't think. Certainly not a feel-good story. It does, however, present a good justification for why Feanor was so damn obsessed with getting those Silmarils back and I'm quite fond of the characterization of Feanor in it. But it won't be everybody's cuppa tea.

Anyway, I'm humbled and surprised to have a story of mine do well in a wider arena like MEFA. Surprised actually because for such a long time the MEFA crowd was hostile to slash. I still think there were many in the community who wouldn't give this fic a read because of the subject matter. But in any case, the fact that it had a showing at all (due to slash-friendly friends)gives me some incentive to write more "serious" fics that might possibly get a wider reading.

Anyway, hope you enjoy it. (I added a nice visual of Feanor at the beginning this morning.)

I didn't know you had posted this. I just read it today and it is brilliant. Well done and congratulations on winning. You shouldn't be surprised though - it is really very good.

PS - Any chance of any more Wraeththu stuff? I loved your stories.
elfscribe5 at 2008-12-04 03:27 (UTC) (Link)
Hi A. Glad you enjoyed it. Chance for more Wraeththu? Not in the immediate future - although I have a couple of long overdue drabbles to do. Turns out doing a drabble right can take some real background work. LOL.
I'm working on a long fic right now. But probably won't start posting until its well along.
