Woot! And I never thought I'd use that. Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema have reached an agreement to make the Hobbit. And it will be TWO films, no less. Now I wonder if he'll cast Orlando Bloom as Thranduil. *g*

OMG!

Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas! But I do note that he is producing and not directing - what's with that? They'd better work fast, though - spritely though he is, Sir Ian is getting up there - Yippee! Yippee! Squees all over the place!

Re: OMG!

Ah, well hopefully he'll be a hands-on producer with creative input. That would be good. I do understand that Ian has said he was interested in playing Gandalf again. Something to look forward to - and may rejuvenate the fandom. Cool beans.

Yeah, thank god they finally got all those nasty legal issues ironed out enough to move on this. I think the mighty smell of money helped all concerned decide it was in their best interests to settle the dispute. One can only hope all those petitions from the fans helped some. (I think I signed several.)

Wonderful news but I do wish he was directing. I hope he is very involved in choosing the cast - he did brilliantly for LOTR (as we all know **smirk**).

BTW, where was that video from in your last post?

Yeah, and hope he and Fran are directly involved in writing the script. That and casting are so key. Wonder if they'll film in New Zealand again?

The footage in that video is from Velvet Goldmine starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Ewan McGregor, and Christian Bale. If you haven't seen it, recommend you try to rent it post haste. If not available around there for rental, it's worth buying. *g* Here's a link to a scene in that one. One of the best screen kisses ever. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvJQe4gTAr8

It would be a little bit of a sell out if he stuck Orlando Bloom in as Thranduil though, wouldn't it? It's like on tv shows, the characters playing their parents, just some makeup and a wig. Nothing against Orli, but I'd be interested to see what other talent they might use in the role?

Great news though. :)

Oh well of course this isn't quite the same case as a TV show with an actor playing his aged parents because for one thing Orli is some years older now and his dad is a youthful elf. But I agree that maybe an actor with some more gravitas is called for. Maybe new talent. But if Orli as Legolas could appear in some cameo - sitting near Dad when the dwarves show up for instance, well that would be fun. I do hope they have a lot of fun with this, with nods to the fans. I'm sure PJ will.
