Too, too funny. I thought when I read the plot point about Gellert Grindelwald and Dumbledore that it didn't make any kind of sense at all unless Dembledore was gay and had fallen in love with him.

Well, I hate to admit that I haven't yet read the last two books and so have missed this Gellert Grindelwald entirely. I'm wondering what on earth JKR is thinking of coming out with this now?

Oops, I am really sorry if I leaked a spoiler. (I am terrible at that. Spoilers do not bother me and so I have a tendency to slip up.) I had a theory about why it came out--an innocent, completely non-political one, arrived at from the perspective of a writer. Someone asked a question about her character and she could not resist answering. I know that I can go on and on forever in emails if someone asks me about one of my characters. We do so much work on characterization and backstories, so little of which are actually visible in the finished product, that it is natural to want to talk about some of it. (Also, she did mention that she had to correct a misconception relating to Dumbledore's love life while observing work on the next movie. That might have been on her mind.)

Oh, by the way, I was thrilled to see you posted some stories at the Silmarillion Writers Guild.

Oh no problem with leaking spoilers. I've read enough of 'em in other people's posts. They won't spoil the read for me, whenever I get to it. I think your theory may be a good one and I wonder if JKR is now regretting having revealed THAT portion of the backstory. People get so freaked out by this stuff, especially when it comes to "protecting" children. As if any kid who listens to the news these days doesn't know about homosexuality.

And a big bear hug for welcoming me so warmly to the SWG site. I actually hit on it from your LJ post about your award. Didn't know the site existed before then. Decided to put up a couple of my fics just to see how they would fly. In the past have often put up fics on new sites only to be disappointed in lack of fb (even though I can see from hits that people are reading 'em - grumbles) so thanks for your kindness.

And there was me thinking she had no concept of subtext!

Go JKR!

Nothing like subtext, heh heh.

Hahahah! I love those "I knew it" moments. ;) Anyway, wasn't just a little too convenient to officially out him only several months after the series was completed?

Yeah, I'm not sure what is going through her mind as I can imagine this might upset a lot of people who don't feel it's appropriate to have any kind of sexuality in children's lit and not just the Christian right folks. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

And here we thought she was massively ignoring all the fanfic. Gad, I would have in her place. But clearly she's aware of it. I guess how could you not be.

oh, yeah, you GO girl

I just read the article and popped on to LJ to see if y'all had heard. Isn't it delicious?!

Re: oh, yeah, you GO girl

Delicious indeed and yet I feel concerned as well. I would hate to see Harry Potter yanked out of libraries as a result. The Christian Right has enough pull as it is. I wonder what the fallout may be? Wonder what JKR's motivation was?
