ROTK EE appendices

Posted on 2004.12.29 at 03:17
Current Mood: impressedimpressed
I just finished watching the appendices of ROTK EE and I am sitting here totally in awe. I mean I was aware of the work behind the scenes from the blurbs in the previous two movies, but this was over-the-top amazing. What a piece of work! I decided to watch the last DVD tonight thinking I'd just watch one or two of the pieces and found myself sitting on the couch with my mouth agape for the entire 3 or more hours of documentary - the layer upon layer of complexity in putting that movie together - what a feat on the part of just everyone involved. I was literally in tears at the end. I so wished I could have been part of all that. The premiere in New Zealand - god, what an outpouring of affection. Was there ever a movie that more deserved to win all those academy awards? And Peter Jackson is a god.

I think I'll wander aimlessly about the house for a while - pondering the effect on the world when talented, dedicated people become united by a great vision and produce a fantastic work of art.

As soon as I have a spare afternoon (and evening) I am going to watch those third and fourth discs. I always find that stuff fascinating.

Hello Claudio! Good to hear from you. And glad you're computer isn't currently crashing. How's Elladan doing these days? Definitely, find the time for those third and fourth disks, you won't be disappointed.

Elladan is going... erm... very slowly. Actually I haven't been working on it at all, for shame. Though at least my internet is more reliable now.

May watch some third and fourth disc action tomorrow...

even with spoilers all over the 'net, it was nothing like actually watching it. everything was utterly facinating, even all the weta-geek stuff... but the actor's talking about their experiences was, as you said, by far the utter pinnacle of the lotr experience. for me, anyway. i had to go back and play certain parts, 'the end of an age' especially. i too had some tears over this, and i rarely do that. 'course there was the added bonus of vig/billy squee!

Yes, indeed. Fascinating. And definitely Vig/Billy squee. Who'd have guessed?

*smiles* aaah so it does that to you too! i just love these films and what goes with it. to think of all those people, working together, so hard and yet so gladly... it's amazing, i often think it would have been awesome to be a part of such an adventure *dreamy* every single detail is simply fascinating, i love knowing everything about the making of lotr.

oh, i think i'm going to watch to cast commentary tonight *grins* orlando always sounds like the same bouncy silly teenager we "met" at the very beginning but he also always comes up with delicious wonderful slashy material every time he opens his mouth *pets*

Sounds like fun, gally. I haven't yet found time to watch the commentary, but I understand that Orli has some very slashy things to say. His few bits on the appendices are so scrumptious, I can't stand it, particularly his reaction to being shown the Leggy-taking-down-the-mumak sequence.

Hullo Elfscribe,

Just come to say I'm alright, Taiwan is not affected at all in that tragidy, and thank you for the asking.

I have alreday got my ROTK EE, only see the movie, not yet the others. I believe that I should be as moved as you. The whole movie and its making are a legend, and people who live to see it are blessed and lucky.

Hiya Iroha,
Thanks for good wishes and the same back to you. It must be so hard to wait for ROTK when everyone else is talking about it. It'll be here before you know it though.

Agreeing most wholeheartedly

Yep. "Wow" pretty much says it all.

I've just finished with Disk 3, and intend to watch Disk 4 tomorrow. I think I'm going to wait, however, to view the "End of an Age" pieces until after I go back and listen to the commentaries and everything. The whole thing needs a sense of closure.

The whole project is just amazing in its capacity to inspire every participant to their utmost abilities. And for such an extended period. The miniature crew was together over six years!

And let's not forget the DVD's themselves. I am continually impressed by the care and attention paid to the DVDs for these films. Mr. Jackson is obviously a DVD fan himself.

I was just saying to Jon tonight as we watched the documentaries that these DVD's offer months and months of viewing options, what with the many commentaries and such. Think about it. An "Actor's Commentary" Marathon. A marathon in which you watch all of the "From Page to Screen" docs in order, then all of the "Bigatures" in order. The possibilities are endless. We plan on sitting down next weekend and having a twelve hour extended edition marathon, watching all three films in one long day. Very excited.

Re: Agreeing most wholeheartedly

Hiya Dalo,
Yeah, we were going to do the all 3 films marathon on New Year's Day, but just couldn't get up the stamina. Ended up just doing ROTK EE instead. Glad you are enjoying it too!
