Why is it that obscure fandoms often have the most original and well-written fics?
There are a lot of the above at Slash Cotillion Periodically, I've spent some time happily immersed in some rather creative stories there.

I recently ran across one with the intriguing title: The True Tale of Young Alvin and Wicked Lord Farthington: Being a Romance in 12 Fyttes and a Duel by Grond. Who can resist a title like that? The story is an unusual twist on a traditional ballad about a young man who fights a duel to win a fair maiden's hand. I love the main character, Alvin, and thought the fic was cleverly written by an author with tongue firmly planted in cheek.
Anyway, I'm sharing in case anyone is interested: check it out

You know how worlds collide sometimes? I thought I recognized Grond. That would be grondfic of my flist, whose story Ajax Renown'd I just read - and loved - last night. Too strange. She's a nice lady and she has this marvelous grasp of language.

And I'll have to check out more stuff on that archive.

Hi Andi. The universe does work in mysterious ways. Thanks for the LJ link. I went to her site and read a couple of stories including "Ajax Renowned," which I really enjoyed, even though I'd never heard of the fandom. She's a good writer. Effective and convincing use of archaic style language, unique and inventive fics with subtle sense of humor. I read stuff like that and figure I should just give up writing. LOL.
Cheers.

Thank you both very much for your kind words and recommendations.

And don't give up writing!

Hiya Grond m'dear. So good to see you here. Well, the praise was well deserved. I have quite enjoyed your fics. Went back and reread Ajax Renown'd last night. Great read. Would love to see a sequel with those two characters. And I realize now that you wrote the Mowgli fic on Slash Cotillion which I also loved. Good luck on writing about Hiawatha. I certainly remember the poem - at least the first two lines, I think required reading for us in grade school. LOL. Yes, trying to match that meter would be incredibly daunting, but I have faith in you.
Cheers.

(And erg LJ is screwing up today, so hopefully you won't get multiple copies of this post.)
