Mefas and New Year's ruminations

Well, I received a Middle-earth fanfiction awards notice and apparently

Elegy for Númenor received First Place in Genres: Longer Works: Incomplete
and
Ossë's Gift received Third Place in Genres: Adventure: Elvish Lands

Wow! I really didn't think I'd get anything at all. Thank you very kindly to my reviewers (and you know who you are) who wrote glowing and often lengthy reviews for the three fics nominated. I know how much work a good review entails.
I'm quite touched. (But you knew that already.) I guess this means I should continue writing Elegy?

Reflections on my writing in 2009
Word counts:
Elegy for Numenor: 39,647
Lord John fic: 11,567
Wraeththu fic: 25,975
2 drabbles: 350
Total:  77,539

Here is where I ritualistically self-flagellate for not getting much writing done and vow to do better this year. I have the best intentions as well as lots of good excuses. However, although the word count is low, I'm pleased with what I did write and one of these fics is actually going to be published. I've also nearly completed editing my novel and that's going well. So, yes, I do plan to be more disciplined and try for 1,000 words a day, but no, I'm not going to be too hard on myself. Life is too short.

Congrats on Elegy. It's an awesome piece of work. I adore Osse's Gift. I hoped it would get a first, but have no idea what it was competing against.

I'm afraid to tally up my year's count. My computer was off and on for months and I had a world-class spate of writers' block.

Thanks hon. Congrats to you too for ALL those wins. I'm happy O's Gift even placed in the MEFAs.

As far as year's count, well its easy when you haven't written much. LOL. I'm hoping for a better year, but so far I've been afflicted with a carpal tunnel problem in my shoulder. Ouch. As far as your writer's block, boy, I haven't seen evidence of it. You're amazingly prolific.

Congrats!!

I'm still not caught up on Elegy (and so many other things). Now I've got even more of a reason to get cracking! (and maybe by the time I get caught up, there will be a new chapter waiting?!)

I'm aiming for 500-600 words per day. So far, I'm 800 words behind! :-/

Thanks Kenaz. Congrats to you also for your wins. Wonderful that West of the Moon, East of the Sun won! Looks like the slash contingent is finally being judged on the merits of the story, not simply the content.

No hurry on Elegy. I haven't caught up with your Ionnath-Estel yet either. Perhaps there will be a new chapter of Elegy soon? Gotta a Slashy Valentine to do first. *wink*
And yes, already behind.

Okay... first? Congratulations!

Second? You ABSOLUTELY SHOULD CONTINUE WRITING! You are awesome, my friend. These are well deserved awards.

Hell, yes.

But no self-flagellation. Life is, indeed, far too short.

Thanks Lilith. This has been all good for the muses, unfortunately RL hasn't been. Right, we are all awesome for doing what we do along with full lives. LOL.

Thanks Min my dear. I loved your MEFA fics also. And thank you for that wonderful review of To Light the Solstice Fire.

Holy crap. The sheer volume is impressive. I haven't written more than 2 short stories a year since 2003. :/

Thanks Jaiden, that makes me feel better. LOL. I'm working my way right now through another of Diana Gabaldon's tomes and wondering how some authors seem to have such a tremendous output. But I agree quality is better than sheer quantity.

Yes. Yes, this is what that means. I think you'll have folks (myself included) breathing down your neck if you don't.

Congratulations on the well-deserved wins! :^)

Well, the same back to you. And thank you very much for the wonderful reviews. I will cherish them. My LJ buds have done very well in the MEFAs this year.
And please feel free to breath down my neck with a little Sauron and Gothmog inspiration.

Congratulations, love.

I think it would be great to write 1,000 words a day, but if it gets to be a chore there's also nothing wrong 1,000 words a week. Just so long as it keeps happening.

This said by someone who has had no time for writing in the past two weeks (including emails *blush*) and is getting slightly antsy about it.

*hugs*

Thanks so much Kei. I really appreciated your nomming O's Gift and the lovely review. Congrats back. Your fics did very well I see. And I've been inspired by your success with NaNo, although I've yet to get more than a paragraph done yet this month and suddenly we're into day 5. *gulp*

Hugs back!

Wow! That's wonderful news and so well deserved, Elfy! No more complaining! Too bad they don't give "awards" for Lord John fic, though, since you'd win that one, hands down. No question. And Yowsa - 1,000 words a day. That'd take me two or three days to write the whole SlashyValentine fic! I'd take it.

Again, congrats, dear G. I'm thrilled for you (and Oshun, and everyone else who did well - and quite frankly for those who didn't, since we know the odds are against we slashers(

Slash seems to do a little better every year, you know. Heck, Elfscribe and I even managed to get E/G accepted *g*.

Yes, yes, yes, please continue with Elegy, please, please, please... I have been biting my nails, hoping for a new chapter after the game. You must continue, can't even consider leaving it like that! I desperately need to know what happens next...

And many, many congratulations, too!! :-)

Thanks russandol. You wrote the first review of Elegy a while back when I didn't think anyone would review it, so I was really touched by your review. I will attempt to crank more on it soon. Got another fic in the hopper before I can get to it. I'm not very good at writing multiple stories at the same time. I did start the next chapter of Elegy from Mairon's pov.

Hope you had a good holiday.

Wow, congratulations! Ossë's Gift is a lovely story and you know how I feel about the Númenor story, so of course you should continue writing it, silly! Lol! :-D
